Escaping the Tormentors Grasp: The Power of Forgiveness

In the tapestry of human existence, few threads hold as much power and transformation as forgiveness. Forgiveness breathes life into broken relationships, heals wounded hearts, and can set us free from burdens of our past. In this blog post, we’re going to dive into the mystery of forgiveness and discover why it is such a foundational element of God’s plan for our lives and a crucial strategy for avoiding demonic torment.

The Puzzle of Forgiveness:

As intricately designed beings walking this complex path called life, we often find ourselves perplexed by the concept of forgiveness. Two immensely difficult questions arise, how can one simply let go of the hurt, pain, and injustice inflicted upon themselves by others and why should one extend mercy to those who have caused us so much turmoil? It’s in these moments of tension that we must turn to the words of Jesus, who is the ultimate source of wisdom and guidance.

In Matthew chapter 18, through a parable, Jesus imparts a profound teaching on forgiveness that illuminates a path to spiritual freedom. Conversely, He shares what happens if this path to freedom is not followed. He presents the illustration of a servant who experiences immense mercy from his master yet fails to extend the same grace to others. This parable serves as a mirror reflecting our own struggles with forgiveness. We, too, have received immeasurable grace and forgiveness from God, and yet, at times, we hesitate to grant the same grace to those who trespass against us.

By holding onto unforgiveness we are willfully forsaking the grace God has shown us. This is a direct slap to His face and there’s a huge consequence attached. Jesus is the one who is warning us of this because He loves us and doesn’t want us to fall into this trap of the devil. By not forgiving those who trespass against us, we literally give the tormentor legal rights to torture us. That legal right comes in the form of unforgiveness, bitterness, offense, anger, etc that we hold onto instead of fully releasing our offender over to Christ. The fruit that comes from giving those legal rights to the enemy is not pleasant and Jesus is giving us fair warning and insight ahead of time on how to avoid them. Forgiveness does not justify the offense against you, nor does it give the offender the right to continue to hurt you. Exercising forgiveness allows God’s justice system to prevail without us getting in the way of it.

Unleashing the Power Within

Within the depths of forgiveness lies an explosive force that propels us forward and opens the floodgates of healing and reconciliation. When we choose to forgive, we break the chains that bind us to resentment and bitterness. It is a courageous act that defies the natural inclination to seek revenge and allows us to step into the realm of divine love and mercy.

The fruit of forgiveness manifests in the restoration of relationships. Just as a vibrant burst of fireworks illuminates the night sky, forgiveness breathes new life into fractured connections. It rebuilds trust, fosters understanding, and paves the way for genuine reconciliation. When we forgive, we participate in the divine dance of restoration, healing the wounds that once threatened to tear us apart.

The transformative power of forgiveness extends beyond our relationships with others. It permeates our innermost being, liberating us from the shackles of the tormentor. Like sunlight bursting through the clouds after a cold dark storm, forgiveness ushers in a renewed sense of peace, joy, and freedom. It allows us to move forward in life, unburdened by the weight of past transgressions. Forgiveness ultimately gets us into alignment with God’s heart and out of the tormentor’s grasp.
